No meat for me.

So it's been around 3 months now that I stopped eating meat due to an e-mail I recieved from PETA (http://www.peta.org/) ... my dumb ass opened it. (Warning: not the weak at heart)

I still use chicken stock and dine mostly on seafood which is fine by me. I also eat more tofu and beans. It's been going well and even Ad is surprised by my committment. I still cook all the meats for Ad and sometimes I will pop it in my mouth to taste just out of habit and spit it back out when I realize what I'm doing. The holidays will be interesting.

We decided to do a traditional Thanksgiving fused with Asian/ Island highlights. Of course, we will be hosting at our house, it's the only place large enough. For my birthday, we are thinking of doing a road trip down to Monterey to see their Marine and Kelp aquarium. http://www.mbayaq.org/ . We saw a documentary on a bunch of aquariums and their history and this one is the closest. The other one was in Hawaii and Chicago.

Bwa ha ha ha.

Welcome.

The movie that most ethical vegetarians use is "Meet Your Meat." (http://www.goveg.com/factoryFarming.asp) If you want to become even more disgusted over factory farming, you'll probably want to see this film too to see the fate of feathered factory farmed animals. I'm still not eating any kind of land meat, but drink organic milk and eat free range eggs every once in a while.

Anyway, I don't know if we've ever talked about why I don't like eating flesh, but I've been reading a bit about Buddhism and it had an interesting take on eating meat. It went something like this:

All life is equally sacred. However, if you find yourself needing to eat the flesh of others, it is better to eat the flesh of a large animal. The food that can be obtained from one large animal can feed many people several times over. However, many lives of shrimp must be taken to make only one meal.

Think it through and make the choice that's right for you!

We love meat! I don't buy cheap meat anymore but go for the more organic stuff since I think they are raised more healthily (sp?) and tastes much better than the giant "shot up" chicken or pork from the ususal grocery stores. I

Yes, you sucker, you did chose to open the email. When I read your blog, all I could think of was, HAHAHAHA.

I love meat too, but I do find myself not eating as much. I happen to cook a lot of it because Frank is a big meat eater.

And when I read the part about the buddism saying about the many lives of shrimp, Frank said, HMMMM shrimp. We just had shrimp keleguen.
